The Society of Laundry Engineers & Allied Trades Limited
(S.L.E.A.T.) is the successor to an earlier trade organisation derived from Laundry Exhibitions which have been held at regular intervals in the United Kingdom since the the early 1890's. S.L.E.A.T. was incorporated in 1907 and its main objects then and ever since have been:
To promote, support and protect the welfare and interest of laundry engineers and allied traders.
To consider and discuss all questions concerning members and the industry at large.
To hold, organise and control exhibitions of machinery and all other products used or Connected with the trades of laundering and dry cleaning.
The management of the Society's affairs, within very wide limits, is vested in its Council which is elected by the full membership. The Council represents all facets of the industry. The Society through its Council and Sector Meetings undertakes specific tasks, in arranging exhibitions, in consulting with Government Departments and Utility Associations in relation to statutory, regulatory and other matters.
The Society is a member of the European Laundry & Dry Cleaning Machinery Manufacturers Organisation ( E.L.M.O.) which was formed to arrange and maintain an Exhibition Cycle for Europe. Membership of the Society is not restricted to the United Kingdom and is open to persons, firms or companies who either manufacture or provide equipment, supplies or services to the laundry, dry cleaning, textile rental and allied industries. Election to membership requires the approval of the Council who will need to be assured of the applicants capabilities and integrity in upholding the high traditions expected of members of the Society
